If Love were a celebrity today it could use media technology to promote itself. In this blog I discuss four media technologies that would be instrumental in bringing the very character of Love into every household world-wide.
I wonder how popular Love would be if it were a celebrity?
(1) Television
held the title of being the most popular form of media since its
inception and its popularity still remains although it is being
challenged in ways that it has never been before. Most everyone I
know has at least one television in their home, but that is not usual
for most people to have only one set. I live in a two
bedroom, two bathroom Condo and we have three in our home (one in the
common area and one in each bedroom). Cable television has taken
viewership to another level; with all the stations and networks
available, there is something for everyone twenty four hours a day.
Entertainment is a primary function of television, but it is also an
excellent source for transmitting information. Communicating
emergency information is a vital purpose of television. Fortunately,
the hard wiring of cable allows us to rely on television more than
wireless communication in the event of a national crisis.
I wonder what Love would look like and how it would communicate in a crisis?
(2)
Radio is
where it really all began. Once it was discovered how to transmit
radio waves into a receiver from one point to another, it was
inconceivable of how far this technology could go. This traditional
form of media was once the only reliable source of information the
public could access.
Some
television shows first started on radio such as soap operas.
Franklin D. Roosevelt used it to communicate his Fireside Chats
during his administration.
During these addresses he communicated information and messages of
comfort to the American people especially during World War I.
There is no doubt that his approach to connect to the American people
through radio made him one of the most beloved presidents to date.
His voice was reassuring at a time of unrest and he was able to
address social issues that were of public concern. The
Radio is still popular today
in light of all the new forms of media that have entered the public
arena.
If Love had a radio show, I wonder what it would sound like?
(3)
Social
networking sites are all the rage these days and there is no sign
of this media form
relenting any time
soon. These types of sites have increased in popularity within the
last 10 or so years, and are revolutionizing the way we
socialize. YouTube is one of the most popular social networking sites
world-wide. Statistics show that YouTube has more than 1 billion
users and 70% of them are outside of the US (YouTube.com, 2013).
Almost anything can be found on this site from movie trailers to how
to solve quadratic equations. There are many features to the site
that make it easy to access and upload content to share with the
public. This social networking site creates options for people who
are bored with other forms of media and are using it to customize
their viewing preferences.
I wonder what kind of videos Love would post on YouTube?
(4) Smart Phones are
the final part of this summary. People of all ages have these types
of phones for communication
and quick access to information. These devices allow people to
connect to others at a moments notice and stay in constant contact
with someone halfway around the world if need be. The cell phone was
popular before this technology hit the market place. The “Net
Generation” seems to prefer this media form over many others.
I wonder if Love would prefer a Smart phone over face to face/verbal communication?
These are my thoughts, what are yours.....
